Dear Thomas,
We received, with great surprise and concern, the news that the management of the Evobus sector, at the Mercedes plant in Mannheim, announced the transfer of part of the production to the Mercedes plant in Czechoslovakia.

At a time of economic and political uncertainty, where we are still rebuilding and reorganizing ourselves as humanity, after a pandemic that has caused and still has caused countless victims, increasing inequalities and deepening crises, the thousand layoffs announced for this transfer are unacceptable.

In addition to COVID-19, the easing of rights and the loss of purchasing power, workers have to deal with the effects of the escalation of a possible nuclear armed conflict - of catastrophic proportions. As in previous crises of capitalism, the working class will be the most affected and losing their jobs in this context is inhumane to those who generate the wealth of Mercedes Benz and make this company one of the market leaders.

In this very sensitive moment, in which dialogue and negotiation are so fundamental, it is necessary for the company to establish contact with the union to jointly find a solution that will keep workers employed.

The workers of Mercedes Benz do Brasil, the Metalworkers Union of ABC (SMABC), the São Paulo State Metalworkers Federation (FEM/CUT), the CUT National Metalworkers Confederation (CNM/CUT) and the Central Única dos Trabalhadores (CUT) stand in solidarity with the struggle to maintain jobs and workers' rights at the Mercedes Benz plant in Mannheim.
